Lubrication of Morse control cables

Post by thinwater »

Is there a simplyfied method of lubricating the cables, short of disassymbling the binicle? The factory manual simply says "clean and lubricate... but how? No the double controls, this looks involved. Yet, they are running fine and I would like to tend to them while that is still the case!

I have tried everything under the sun to keep up with these cables, but unless we disassemble and remove them twice a year, they invariably end up freezing and breaking. I have gone to the "higher" grade cable in the West Marine catalog and while they seem to prolong the imminent cable demise, they aren't worth double the price. We've just gotten into the routine of pulling them out every 4 months, lubricating them, cleaning them, and then re-installing.

I'd love to hear someone else's thoughts on this issue. In the mean time........Embrace the horror, yank those cables!

Regards,
Tom

[*]Gripe.
[*]Wait until the boat comes out in the fall for paint. Procrastination is always a favorite.
