2010 Repower with Yamaha 9.9?

Post by holomoku »

Hello all,

I'm looking at a possible repower on a 1993 PDQ 36 Classic and wonder what the latest updates are.
I've read a lot of info on this site that references 2006 yammy 9.9's being a little larger than the previous model.
Given the time that has gone by since those articles, I'm wondering if the latest 9.9 models will still fit.
I'm considering using the T9.9 GEXH and fitting it w/Remote Attachment Kit, replacing the tiller handle.
The GEXH model has the manual tilt which is appealing for it's simplicity.
The other option is the GPXR which is already set for remote operation and has the power tilt/trim option.
Can this engine be tilted manualy and started manually in the event of loss of battery power?

Any info is appreciated.

2010-2006 are the same.

Emergency pull start same as older engines.

Thanks Thinwater,

I saw that manual but haven't found any info on the power tilt yet.
I did find this blog entry about repower with the GPXR - http://bacchagato.blogspot.com/2009/01/ ... gines.html
Looks like they will work.

Greetings Holomoku,

We re-powered SUNSHINE (43002) with two manual tilt GEXH 9.9s in October. We needed the remote conversion kit and the 10 pin wiring harness for each engine. The installation was performed by Chris at Beacon Light Marina (upper Chesapeake Bay). We did not need to replace the Morse controls or the ignition switches. We wanted to stay with the simplicity of the manual tilt, but the motors with the kits ended up costing a bit more than the GPXRs. In our case, the GPXRs would not fit without fiberglass work to accommodate its larger brackets. Even so, the brackets would have hung in the water.

We have since put 250 trouble free hours on the new engines.

Thanks Bill and Anna,

Very good to get feedback from someone who has done this repower recently... thanks.
I may be inclined to go with the manual tilt as well.
Keep it simple is usually the best approach.
