Recoating the lower water pump chamber on Yamaha 9.9

Post by Magic Time »

The photo is of the lower water pump chamber before it was cleaned out.
The next photo is after it is cleaned.
Note there is some of he protective coating warn away and some pitting.

Does any one know what is used by Yamaha or can you suggest something to coat this chamber to give the metal a little protection. I.E. water proof paint ?

Any suggestions please!

Magic Time,
I had a similar situation but mine was a saltblock. Yours appears to be some sort of marine growth. You might want to look at Interlux Trilux 33 antifouling paint (spray can) which is made for aluminum outdrives. They also recommend a Primocon primer but these products are very pricey. In new West Marine catalogue pg271.
I think the factory paint may be some sort of zinc-chromate.
