My port engine has been having an issue for quite some time. It idles okay when you start it up, runs fine at speed but when I decelerate it dies instead of ideling. For other reasons the fuel pump and carb have both been changed; the fuel pump with a new one the carb I rebuilt. Compression, timing, and cooling are all good.
Any thoughts?

Re: decel to idle
Have you tried adjusting the idle screw a bit to increase the idle speed? It's possible that in all the mechanical work the cable is slightly off from the original position.

Re: decel to idle
Eric,
Thanks for the suggestion. Yes bumping the idle up was one of the first things I tried but taking it too high causes issues with shifting in and out of gear.
The amount I was able to bump it up didnt do the trick.

Did you figure this out, Tom? We have similar issues. I have been assuming the carb is messed up in some way and needs a thorough cleaning.

Not yet Mike. Unfortunately life keeps getting in the way.
I plan to take alook at the intake manifold gaskets and will probably swap the two carbs to see if the problem moves.

Re: decel to idle
I would love to swap the carbs but I find removing the port one to be bad enough. Getting at the starboard one, the carb that is working, looks impossible. I did try that with the fuel pump though.
