After re reading...

Try wiggling the gear shift. Sounds like the neutral switch may be out of whack. There are two places you might find a neutral switch, in the gear shift lever or on the engine on the shift linkages close to the shifter down rod.

I know there is a switch inside the throttle mechanism. I've tested both sets, port and starboard, and both function.

Might there be another switch inside the engine?

Oh, I'm also going to start it by rope (I know, Neanderthal, right?) just to show the Admiral that we're full of... safety..redundancies.

Some of them have the second switch still hooked up. Me, I bypassed both switches and just think before I turn the key.

Well....

Nothing was broken. I pulled and checked all sorts of gadgetry. I put it back together. The she-devil cranked right up. Corrosion I guess, like her heart! She's back in the engine bay planning her next move.
