Not sure if I see any advantages over the Yamaha 9.9 high thrust except for maybe price? It weighs substantially more and the lower unit gearing is not what you would expect from a high thrust motor. We paid about $2,700 for the Yamaha 9.9 for our Seawind 1000 two years ago, given, it didn't have the electric tilt. I've heard the Suzukis are fine motors but I don't think it would be a great substitute for the Yamaha 9.9 high thrust.

Try Andy Munao Jr. at Shipyard Island marina (920-847-2533) in Wisconsin, he may be able to match the price on those Suzuki's with Yamaha 9.9's. Yamaha products and parts way more prevalent in the islands I dealt with him a few years back, definitely a positive experience. Jim

Andy is definitely the go to source for the Yamaha 9.9s

Did I read right that the Suzuki has electric tilt? For most of us that's a negative not a positive. Longer brackets drag in the water and more failure points. Of the lift fails in the up position; would you be able to pull the engine for repair or would it be jammed in place?

I can also recommend Andy, make that your first call.

I didn't see it in the product specs but is the Suzuki a 25 inch model? Seems that it is for fishing boats and not the X-long you might need.

Andy will also match the wiring harness plug such that it is a drop-in replacement. ... gines.html
Not sayin' we shouldn't always be looking for something better. But so far (2 years), I like my new Yamaha 9.9s:
* they lift higher
* a bit lighter
* easy throtle and shift hook-up, and easier to work manually if need be.
* pull-start is easier if needed
* manual choke works fine; better than auto was in cold weather. I like that it makes me look at the engine and the pee stream every time. Also encourages me to check the oil more often.
