New Yamaha 9.9 vs old noise level

The Yamaha web site seems to suggest that the new model 9.9 has improvements that affect the noise level. Did those of you who have installed the newer engines notice a difference?

Most definitely. Unfortunately the biggest difference is at idle, can barely tell they’re running. At full throttle they’re still louder than I’d like.

I tend to motor with engine at 3600 rpm. Is there a noticable difference at this point?

Yes. But only because I have a '98 and a 2013 on either side.
