Anyone tried 20" shafts?

Post by Latis (32028) »

Just got into the PDQ family .. 1997 32 footer - so far delighted - however on my list of things to do unfortunately is replace are the outboards. I may be speaking heresy - but has anyone tried using a 20" shaft? Or is that just not even an option with prop not submersed enough.. 25" very tough to find/get.
Thanks!

stay with 25

I don't believe 20 inch would do the job. Keep in mind that the surface of the water is not flat when you are underway. If the prop breaks the surface at all you will have a screaming engine.
Get in touch with PDQ - they can tell you where to go for replacements.

consider 8 hp

You might also consider the Yamaha 8 HP. There is a thread on the forum at http://www.themultihull.com on engines for catamarans. It seems the T8 is essentially the old 9.9 and it is available with the 25 inch shaft.
