Bahamas in early June

We're planning a trip to the Bahamas in early June. Anybody have advice on what route, what to do etc...? We're hoping to do some fishing, snorkleing, sailing, and relaxing. We'll have about 3 weeks to go from Melbourne there and back. We have Progressive insurance and currently have a 125 mile limit from the US but we're trying to get that extended.

We were looking at the northern Abocos, maybe Walker Cay. We'd also like to see Peterson Cay (our last name). We have alot of questions from anchoring to customs to provisions, etc...

We've already picked up the 2010 Yachtman's Guide.

Any thoughts, ideas, routes?

Anyone want to get together for lunch and let me take notes?

Tom

!.Don't try to do the Bahamas on a schedule. The weather WILL cause you delays
2. You need to leave from a southerly point (i.e. Miami) where you can sail northeast to take advantage of the gulf stream.
3. Dump the Yachtsmans guides. Get a set of EXPLORER CHARTS. They are the only charts to use in the Bahamas.
4. Make sure that you have at least a shortwave receiver on-board. You will NOT get the US National Weather service in the Bahamas.

For the SSB receiver. I have a Si-Tex HF3 that's inoperative. I checked with SiTex and they want $75 / hour to try and fix.

Should I:

1) Let them fix it.

2) Pick up a battery unit like the Degen 1103

3) Bite the bullett and get the IC706 and the tech license to go with it. (I already have the ships stations license for SSB)

Thanks for the help.

Did I read LUNCH? I am in Stuart. Come on down. To wet your appetite - no pun intended:

Allans-Pensacola Cay is my favorite for solitude.
Nippers on Guana Cay is my favorite for partying. A little Nipper Juice and then ..............What goes on at Nippers stays at Nippers. They have a GREAT magician at certain times.

Have left from West Palm and from Jupiter. Have checked in at West End but found it much easier to check in at Spanish Cay.

Feel free to go to my website: http://web.me.com/thegreatzambini and check out our last Bahamas cruise (August 2009).

Doug,

Stuart is a bit of a drive but I may have some work at FLL in the next couple of weeks, I'll get in touch with you before I head down.

Thanks

Tom

That so called magician at Nippers gets greater in direct proportion to the number of Nipper's rum punches you drink. Befoe your 1st one, you'll wonder why he's there. After just one, he seems pretty good. After two, you be volunteering to be his assistant (Do NOT put on the bikini!!) and after three, you'll miss the rest of the show.
