Outer Bank Info Wanted

We're hoping to jump off the ICW around Kitty Hawk and head down the Outer Banks this trip. We'll re-join the ICW around Beaufort NC. Does anyone have any anchoring/visiting recommendations along that area - no marinas please! Thanks!!! 8)
