Inverter/Charger Interferance

Post by Cat Tales »

When the Xantrex Freedom 2000 inverter/charger is on (either in charge or inverter modes) we get a buzzing sound through the AM radio. It only happens when on AM stations, never on FM/CD/MP3/DVD etc. Interestingly it won't do it when receiving a charge from the solar panels, but any other time the batteries are charging, including when the engines are on, it buzzes. Any suggestions on what can be done to isolate and eliminate the interferance?

Chris,
I used to run into this problem a great deal in the Motorhome and Buses I used to work on. You are getting radio interference from the inverter feeding up the 12vdc negative of the radio. Our cure was to go to Radio Shack or the Source and you can buy a radio noise suppressor. It is just 2 wires that feed into what looks like a coil. You install it inline between the boat 12vdc negative and the radio 12vdc negative. This should help.
Cheers
