Radar Installation Question

Posted by Roger Ford on February 12, 2001 at 06:36:00:

On the PDQ36, where (high high) on the mast are you installing the radome? And
have you found that the standard 33 feet of cable is sufficient to go from the
mast to the helm?
Thanks!!!

Jack may not have seen your question ... he told me ..

" ... We used the 3/4" conduit; the power wire and ant. wire are actually housed
in the same wire ; we ran the cable through the deck with a cable clam(water
tight)"
Hope this helps

Hi Roger: We installed a Furuno unit 7 months ago, I got the exact dimension
from Rory @ PDQ (seems like it was 12ft.from deck , but check with him), anyway
the dome is just behind the baby stay and clears it by about 4 inches. My boat
is in the Bahamas or I would measure it for you. We used the exterior cable
track from PYI(800 523 7558) rather than drill a large hole in the "stick". The
standard length cable of 35ft worked for us, I mounted the monitor at the helm
on a swivel bracket from West Marine, works great! Hope this helps ya. Best/Jack

Thanks for the info!!! The newer PDQ's have a Selden mast which has a conduit
incorporated in the forward edge; however, the access appears to be just above
the baby stay which would make installation easier in one respect but require
more length and the issue of the jib dragging across the radome.

Thanks for the info on the cable track. I am installing Raytheon radar and will
use the same method as you. What type of deck gland did you use to waterproof
where the cable goes thru the deck?
