Electrical generation

This past spring I installed a small Kubota diesel gen set on my PDQ36. The
engine is completely marinized and is suprisingly quiet. It drives an automotive
alternator. Unit weighs about 125 lbs. It's put out by Next Generation Power
Engineering in Jacksonville, Fl.

Hi Len, Where did you install it? Does it have it's own tank? What is it's Kw
rating?
Marc

Marc, I installed the gen set in the port forward locker. The fuel tank is a
converted 2.5 gal gas tank for an outboard. It is located in the little locker
just aft of the tramp. I installed a 1" plastic pipe thru the flotation
compartment and ran the fuel lines thru that. The unit if for DC only and I'm
using a rebuilt auto alternator which is rated for 67 amps. The engine will
drive a larger alternator, but this one came fairly cheap. When I replace it I
may go to a bigger one. Len

Good Morning Len, I came on line between your postings

What is the out put of the Alternator? Does it do "smart" regulating or do you
do that through something you already have onboard?

Hi Dan, I'm using a standard auto alternator rated at 67 amps. It has a built in
regulator. I don't expect it to last too long in the marine environment, but it
was a lot cheaper that the marine type. So far so good. Len
