Installing PUR 40e watermaker

Hi:[/i]

My wife and I purchased "Samtosha", PDQ 32 in Annapolis, MD in November and
frantically began outfitting her (now Katmantoo) for a trip to the Bahamas. We
managed to throw the dock lines off after 2 weeks and plowed through ice on the
creek to head south

We are now in St. Augustine, FL getting some new bottom paint and enjoying the
warm weather. We have installed a wind generator which manages to keep up with
the refrigeration needs. We have a PUR 40e watermaker waiting for installation

I haven't gotten around to it yet. Anybody have recommendations for location
without adding a new through-hull? I planned to tee into the head intake. Unit
supposed to be installed below the waterline. Any suggestions will be greatly
appreciated

Cheers,
Keith and Charlotte
S/V Katmantoo

Keith and Charlotte: Congratulations on your PDQ: you've made a great choice

Our PUR watermaker was factory installed under the settee opposite the nav

station and plumbed into the head intake as you suggest. This puts the unit
below the waterline. Be careful to keep the feed hose as low as possible: mine
loops briefly up above the waterline and I get airlocks which need an auxiliary
manual water pump to clear. The feed to the head can loop above the waterline
and may actually help clear airlocks

The waste flow from my unit is plumbed through a throughhull just above the
waterline right above the unit. You may be able to plumb this line back to the
sink drain if you want to avoid a new throughull, but I haven't had any problem
with mine
