Those of you with older PDQs where the speed sensors are hard to reach or those
sick of cleaning paddle wheels may be interested in a new ultrasonic sensor from
Airmar that fits in your existing thru hull
Model no. is CS4500. I think it costs about $600.

My speedo is never all that accurate, even when it's clean as a whistle. I heard
about that new sensor, but Raymarine tells me I can configure the WSI to take
SOG information from my GPS through Seatalk, so I'm going to try that first, as
it will be cheaper (and maybe more accurate). My only use for the speedo is
getting an appropriate correction for true wind speed and direction, anyway,
since my chartplotter is always on when I am underway. Anyone have experience
with this?
