Loss of Raymarine hsb signal

Posted by Bob Johnson on July 01, 2003 at 22:53:00:

I have been losing the communication between my radar and chart plotter. I just
discovered it occurs when I lower either of my outboards into the water. The
engines are becoming ground plates I guess but how this affects the instruments
escapes me.Has anyone seen this before?

Turns out it was a defective remote unit, which Raymarine replaced under
warranty. Works fine now.

I think I've traced my problem to the sonar transducer.( I have a L755
fishfinder/chartplotter in the nav area connected via HSB to a RL70 radar at the
helm). When I run with the sonar cable disconnected I have no problem. If I
connect the cable and lower an engine I lose the HSB. I ran with a transom type
transducer supplied by Raymarine dangling in the water and had no problem when I
lowered the engine. Somehow the transducer is shorting thru the water to the
engine.

I am experiencing a loss of signal between the radar/chart plotter and the
remote unit. PDQ suggested it may be a loose connection, which I haven't acted
on yet. Will advise.
