Sailing Ability

I'm in the research stage for buying a catamaran, have been to the boat shows
and come away each time liking the PDQ's the most in terms of layout, finish,
etc. However, I haven't been able to find any published reviews on how they
sail, especially in bluewater conditions. I'm particularly interested in the
Antares, but would also like to read about the Capella. I'm planning at some
point on chartering an Antares, but would like to learn as much as possible in
advance. Anyone have any sources? Thanks.

go to the PDQ website and download some of the magazine articles. I think this
one was right on

http://www.pdqyachts.com/ver2/yachtsSai ... meSet.html
I also think chartering a few times -- in different boats -- is a must.

If you can, I would highly recommend chartering one. Then, you can see for
yourself. Check out http://www.sailabaco.net

Another reference is Practical Sailor's "Practical Boat Buying" or their
individual reviews. they have done both the 32 and 36.

Hi Steve, the 32 sails very well with "good air" I think anyone would be pleased
with the performance. In light air she does not do so well, probably because of
the small self tending jib. I overcame this on mine by adding a bow sprint with
a wire luff drifter - now it is very rare to be passed by anyone but a pure
racer. If you live near NJ I would be happy to show you and take you sailing one
day. Contact me directly if you would like any other info - Roger Wood

You might also check with PDQ. Their new website claims that performance info
will be posted soon.

The "Sailors Multihull Guide" gives good overall info on most cats but no
specific sailing criteria. "Cruising in Catamarans" by Charles Kanter does give
ratings from 1 to 5 for various sailing characteristics.
