I recently installed two 160watt solar panels above the aft Bimini. In the ongoing effort to reduce weight on the aft of the boat I went with Lightleaf solar panels. Manufactured in Canada from carbon fiber rigid panels they each weigh 8 lbs. Wired in series and running through a Victron controller we’re seeing a consistent 18amp output during most of the day.
The primary advantage is avoiding the need to reinforce the aft bimini structure and keeping weight down. The manufacturer also makes a kit with panels that attach to lifeline rails and can be stowed vertically than swing out to horizontal when in use.
