Transmission cooler, rubber adapters

Post by gallf1 »

Was working on removing and upgrading the original Yanmar starter relays (next post)..... and decided to take a look at the original "Bowman?" rubber reducers from the oil cooler to stainless tubing.

They weren't leaking but they are original (2006) and seeing as how the original parts are hard to come by and expensive, I decided to seek alternatives before we leave for the Abacos in a few months.

When I put a Cummins 4BT Diesel into a 1971 Land Rover, I used a lot of formed silicone parts for the Turbo and I found these reducers as a perfect upgrade for only $11.99 + Shipping from Colorado. You may or not need to trim them about 1/4" for length with a sharp utility knife but otherwise a perfect fit.

Felix,

Very interesting and helpful. What was the condition of the old rubber adapters when you removed them?

The rubber ones weren't cut or leaking but they were deformed from the strange angle formed by the u-bolt isolator holding the ss tube to the transmission. I slightly modified the u-bolt attachment and squared up the angle so that the new silicone reducers are not being set at an angle or under stress.
