Trim/stability of PDQ36 LRC without the mast
Trim/stability of PDQ36 LRC without the mast
We're planning on starting the Great Loop in about a year. We don't expect to do much sailing during this event and don't relish carrying the mast with us on deck. We're planning on temporarily unstepping the mast, installing an arch on the stern to support the nav lights, radar, added solar panels and reserving space for other stuff (wind generator?). Has anybody had experience running an LRC without the mast (I know unstepping a mast on a mono hull really adversely affects the boat's stability)? Since the mast appears to be stepped over the boat's center of gravity/buoyancy that shouldn't affect the trim of the vessel. Another related question: how much of an arch (eg, weight) could be supported by the boat without affecting trim? Thanks for the help.
Hi: We just did the loop last year.We feel you need the mast so you can sail on the great lakes and outside on the east coast ICW. You are correct in thinking there is not much sailing on the river system but in the ICW in Alabama,Fl. north & west coast, the east coast and Georgian bay & the great lakes there is lots of great sailing. If you E-mail your phone # I will call you and run some of our sailing experiences by you. Also when you get up north be sure to call us and we can help with charts and spots to anchor in some of the greatest crusing in the world.
