Flushing Outboard Engines

Post by John L. »

Appreciate any suggestions about flushing our outboard engines regularly used in salt water.

Please see Topcat's posted subject of "Salty Yamaha 9.9" and my recent response for my current method of flushing.

Anyone with a better / easier way of doing it?

I have fittings installed on the bottom intake with hoses run to the top of the engine pod. Everytime I use the boat I hook up a garden hose and run the engine for a minute or two with it tilted up. I then spray the engine off with the hose.

I'm new to the PDQ but with every other boat I've always flushed each and everytime I use it. Never had a problem.
