Re: Holding tank questions
So now we've pumped out several times, added Oxiclean, flushed exclusively with freshwater for some time, bought the boat odors book, added a tank monitor (Snake River) . The smell is much better but still there when someone flushes. (Maybe I'm picky?) Next we will try the vent filter.

Re: Holding tank questions
Are you sure you are smelling the holding tank and not just the stinky river water? We are not in the cleanest, freshly flowing, crystal clear water. Mine always gets a little funk after a flush but dissipates rapidly.

Hmmm. So I am being picky. It very well could be that. I guess that means I need to take month off and sail the keys or Bahamas. Somehow I don't see the admiral going for that during school year.

Agree with stinky source ... also unless you flush regularly, some of that water sits in the intake hose and ripens in there between through hull and the head - once it's flushed through - I noticed it gets better (or as clean as the source)!

You also might try Kills Odor and Clean Potty (made by Raritan) and available at West Marine and other boating stores. I've been using their products for about two years (including a trip down the ICW) and we do not have any odors. The stuff seems to work realy well. I found out about ir from a review in "Practical Sailor".
