When I was trying to isolate the problem, the macerator pump always worked when I routed a temporary hose directly over the side, rather than to the thru-hull. After trying everything I could think of, I finally routed the oulet hose straight out the side of the hull, above the waterline, and under the bridge deck. It has worked every single time since last summer. Of course, I only discharge when at least 3 miles offshore, and moving.

one other fup on the y-valve/macerator issue. make sure that the o-rings which seal the input & output pipes are in good shape. after taking the y-valve apart a couple of times, they flatten out and allow air to enter the y-valve and prevent the macerator from sucking.
