Greetings All - We've recently experienced a failure in the port motor lockdown for the high thrust Yamaha 9.9. We're looking for repair procedures/suggestions or sugestions for an alternate way to hold the motor down for reversing.
Even a drawing of the mechanism would be a help!
Thanks,
Lock Down Mechanism

If you go to boats.net you can get reasonable parts diagrams for the 9.9. I have found that grease .. often... does the job. There is a NAPA part number for the grease fitting.. try pdq36.com and look in the engine archives... you also might try spraying white grease on the spring mechanism and working the lock lever up and down.

Sunshine,
This is a chonic common problem on the 9.9 Yamaha. I have had some success spraying copius amounts of WD40 just under the lever. I think "Someday Soon" used a long line tied to the lower unit and run forward under the bridgedeck to a forward tieoff. This might be a temporary fix.

I sent a picture to Sam Densler, on the other PDQ board.
