Hot Water Heater Leak

Post by Mongoosemagic »

I have the LRC with a built in hot water heater. The Whale pipe (cold water side) going in to the water heater has suddenly decided not to stay connected. When I reinsert the pipe it seems connected but after a while it comes out again. This causes about 10 gallons of water in the bilge. Is this caused by too much heat, or ???. Should I replace the fitting??? Any suggestions would be helpful.

My hot water heater came with plastic Whale fittings directly on the tank. By the end of the first season one had failed. I replaced both input and output with the proper metal fittings - a flexible one foot metal hose with the Whale fitting on the end and haven't had a problem since.

When working with whale fittings there are a few things to watch out for. Before inserting the tube, make sure the end is cut square, and there are no gouges or damage to the tube. Mark the tube 1 1/8" from the end and make sure its pushed into the line. This is the most common problem. Good luck James
