For those of you with a SL Sprint 1000 windlass, does anyone use HT or G4 chain. We currently have BBB chain on the windlass, but we'd like to switch to HT and I can't confirm if the Sprint 1000 will accept HT chain.

Thanks,
Chris

I have a Sprint 1000 and use Acco G4, spliced to NE Rope 9/16 3-strand nylon. This was the combo the gypsy was designed for. I'm surprised that yours works with BBB, since I thought that had a shorter link. It is possible that you have a different gypsy, or that my memory is faulty. My "parts notes" shows a number for the windlass of: SL00610016PK - perhaps yours is a different version.

I have found two different bits of info from Simpson Lawrence. My manual states HT or BBB but the windlass descriptions I have seen only state HT, hence the question. Although I don't have my serial number handy, the original (installed 2000) windlass was replaced two years ago with a brand new one (2006). The chain has not been replaced since commissioning so I can only assume that HT or BBB will work on all models from 2000-2006. When I purchase & replace with HT I'll let you know if it doesn't work.

Does anyone have an inexpensive source for G4/HT chain? I found one on Ebay for $2.50 a foot, but can't trust that the chain has actually been tested or certified G4.

Thanks,
Chris

I bought 5/16" G4HT from Defender for my Sprint 1000.

I was just at the boat and looked up what the manual says and thought I'd put it in here for posterity.

There is a table for Gypsy 608RC60 - I assume the "8RC" means 8mm, Rope/Chain - which lists 5 types of chain.
The "P" dimension is the width of the "hole" in the chain, "D" is the thickness:
P D
S-L 0058003 24.0mm 8mm
S-L 0058003 stainless 24.0mm 8mm
ACCO Proof 25.4mm 1/4"
ACCO High Test 26.2mm 5/16"
ACCO BBB 25.4mm 5/16"

Elsewhere I found mention of a different gypsy, listed as 6010C50, which is chain only for German Din 766 10mm chain.
