remove ice-chest

My PDQ has the ice-chest and I HATE IT! It is totally wasted space in that I live on-board and use a dorm frig that sits directly on top of the ice-chest. I don't want to store food in it and then have to remove the frig every time I want to get into it (like my husband suggests). I want to remove the whole thing and put nice deep shelves in. Has anyone removed the ice-chest? My husband is worried about cutting into the propane line and wound like to know where it is and if it is a problem? Also any tips about cutting through the fiberglass would be helpful.
