Yamaha T9.9 electric tilt motor cover corrosion

Has anyone run into the need to change the cover of the electric tilt motor on the T9.9? The Yamaha site shows it as a $467.30 part, when the entire assembly is only $410. I called Fair Winds Marina and they confirmed it. I am hoping they were just reading the same site I was and there is really a less expensive alternative.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Eric

Have you had any luck getting the cover only? Could an after market cover be molded?

My sympathies Eric they all do it. All my Yamahas and Honda lift motor housing rusted. I was able to inhibit further damage with CRC’s Marine Heavy Duty Corrosion Inhibitor. When applied it creates a heavy thick wax film that blocks water to any surface. The coating is dark amber in color and sticky so it’s not pretty but the fish don’t mind. I use it on new equipment and mini propane tanks for the boat grill too (you know how they rust up fast). Practical Sailor rated the best. Ray
