Fuel Tank Inspection Ports

After reading the posts on fuel polishing and several of the front tanks developing leaks I decided to order this past Tuesday several 6” clean out access plates with 8” covers. Today they just arrived and I have to give a two thumbs up to Boyd Welding (fueltankparts.com). The plates were nicely done and better than I expected. They were $58 each and came with all the necessary hardware and gasket. I have installed clean out ports before, same size on an aluminum tank in a sailboat. Back then I had to get the plate made. Back then I found the best method for drilling the hole in the tank is to use a 6” hole saw. It works well on aluminum. For the front tank I will probably need to rent a right angle drill from Home Depot because of the overhead clearance limitations. I will post pictures once I it done and any issues in doing it, probably in the next month.
