Keel Crack

On hauling out my boat I noticed vertical cracks on each keel about a foot from the leading edge. The keel at this point is about 3” high. Has anyone else experience this? I plan on grinding it down and do a cloth and epoxy repair. The keel do not appear to be a structural component. They look like they were added to protect the props and rudder from a grounding. Does any one know if they are foam core?

Based on my experience the interior of the keel is a green material. Not fiberglass. The covering is about one layer of glass. I decided to repair with epoxy and glass cloth.
